Biomedical Research Grant from the IUSM Biomedical Research Committee (BRC)

All full-time faculty, regardless of tenure status, having an appointment of Assistant Professor or Assistant Scientist and above, who have less than $100,000 in extramural funding at the time of application, are eligible. Primary appointment must be in the School of Medicine. In general, two categories of research projects will benefit from this program: 1) research projects of investigators new to IUSM who do not yet have extramural funding and who need support to acquire the preliminary data necessary to compete for extramural funding; 2) research projects of established IUSM investigators who are between funding periods from extramural sources.

Clarian Health Values Fund from the Clarian Hospitals

Applicants must be employees of Clarian Health or physicians and health professionals with staff privileges at Clarian Health. Funding is available in three areas: Research, Education, and Spirituality. The Research category is primarily directed at new and young investigators or those investigators embarking on a new career direction.

Indiana CTSI Collaboration in Biomedical/Translational Research Pilot Program Grants

The CBR/CTR awards are to foster collaborations between entities at IU, Purdue and Notre Dame to conduct translational research projects that have the potential to develop into larger, continuing, externally funded research programs.  Proposed projects should have participation by two (or more) principal investigators representing at least two of the sponsoring affiliates for this program. Sponsoring affiliates include: IU School of Medicine (IUSM); IUPUI (non-IUSM); IU Bloomington; Purdue University (West Lafayette); University of Notre Dame.

Pilot Funding for Research Use of Core Facilities at the IUSM (BRC)

All full-time faculty, regardless of tenure status, having a primary appointment in the School of Medicine at a rank of Assistant Professor or Assistant Scientist and above, regardless of extramural funding levels, are eligible. This program has been created to provide pilot funding to encourage researchers to utilize approved IUSM core facilities (e.g. generation of transgenic or knockout mice, imaging, microarrays, etc) to generate preliminary data for competitive extramural grant applications.

Research Enhancement Program at the IUSM (BRC)

The Research Enhancement Program is designed to stimulate research productivity at the statewide Centers for Medical Education including the Bloomington Medical Sciences Program. Center/Bloomington Medical Sciences faculty who commit 80% or more of their time to medical school activities, irrespective of their university appointment, are eligible to apply as project directors.

Includes the following programs: Overseas Sabbatical or Project Study Grant (OSPS), Research Investment Fund (RIF), Research Support Funds Grant (RSFG), Research Venture Award (RVA), Seed Grants for NIH "Roadmap" Initiative, New Frontiers Arts and Humanities Program, System-wide Internal Funding Programs, and Internal Competitions for External Funding.

Showalter Research Trust Funding at the IUSM

Open to current Indianapolis full-time faculty, on a non-visiting status, having a rank of Assistant Professor or Assistant Scientist. Areas of appropriate biomedical research eligible for funding are broad and described by the benefactors as "the type of medical research that is most likely to permanently benefit mankind."

Spinal Cord and Brain Injury Fund Research Grant Program from the Indiana State Dept of Health

The state of Indiana expects the Spinal Cord and Brain Injury Fund to generate approximately $1.6 million per year, with the majority of money to be allocated to fund research related to treatment and cure of spinal cord and brain injuries.  The application package is designed for all researchers, including post-doctoral, wishing to submit proposals for research projects / programs. Final funding decisions for all proposals submitted under this program will be made by the Spinal Cord and Brain Injury Research Board after receiving input from an independent scientific advisory panel comprising scientists and clinicians. Applications to this program are considered small grants and should have a maximum requested amount of $60,000 (per year, including indirect costs @ 12%). All applications should be limited to a two-year duration. The fund is willing to provide salary support for post-doctorate fellows for up to two years.

Young Investigator Award at the Richard Roudebush VA Medical Center

The VA Medical Research Service at the Roudebush V.A. Medical Center requests applications for small research grants up to $30,000 directed at the study of discrete projects intended to produce preliminary data in support of a future application for a VA Career Development Award or Merit Review grant. Thus, the applicant must be qualified to apply for VA funding, and must be a clinician investigator (M.D., D.O. and/or Ph.D. engaged in patient care) with an academic rank not exceeding assistant professor.
