Definition of an IUSM Core: An IUSM Core is a facility that provides a needed service to IUSM investigators from more than one division or department enabling them to conduct their funded individual research projects more efficiently and/or more effectively. Cores should be designed to furnish a group of investigators with materials, training, determinations, data analysis, instrumentation, and/or quality control to enhance research and contribute to cost effectiveness. Cores should be open to all IUSM investigators.

Role of the Core Oversight Committee: The Core Oversight Committee provides oversight for the IUSM Research Core Facilities as the name suggests. The committee is a Dean's Office standing committee with membership appointed through the Executive Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Professional Development, Stephen Bogdewic, Ph.D. The committee is responsible for formally approving IUSM cores through an established application / status report process, sets standards and requirements for the core designation, and completes competitive reviews of the funding applications received from the various cores (for equipment and bridge funding needs).
